Background
In what has been described as a ‘death by a thousand cuts’, local Subpostmasters from the Plymouth, North and East Cornwall Branch of the National Federation of Subpostmasters fear that many more Offices will close, affecting some of the most vulnerable members of society.
Subpostmasters fulfil a vital community role, often acting as an unofficial advisor and advocate; providing help and information on a wide range of varied subjects. This unpaid and largely unseen ‘social’ role will perhaps only be recognised when it no longer exists.
In light of the Governments' recent announcement to close some 2,500 small Post Offices, the Subpostmasters have come together in a campaign under the banner of ‘Post Office - Heart of the Community’, asking people to support their local Post Office by opting to use Post Office products and services.
In particular, now that the future of the Post Office Card Account (POca) has been secured, the campaign will focus on explaining the benefits of the POca. It will also encourage and facilitate the opening and use of these accounts.
